Programs

High Hopes for Teens has two primary programs available:
  • Aviation Orientation

    and

  • Private Pilot Training and Certification

Aviation Orientation

At-risk youth will be offered an introduction to aviation through ground and flight operations.

The youth may not be a pilot candidate, but will experience positive benefits from exposure to aviation through one or more flights, as well as education and mentoring before, during, and after the flight.

Private Pilot Training and Certification

Qualified and capable youth will be offered an opportunity to earn their private pilot’s certificate through scholarships.

Each pilot candidate must pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test and obtain an FAA Third Class Medical in order to continue with the certification program.  Flight and ground operations will be conducted at Peak Aviation Center, 1360 Aviation Way, Colorado Springs, CO (www.cospilot.com).

This program generally lasts between six months up to over a year.  Along the way students may be offered the opportunity to work in the airport environment to help offset their flight training costs.

Candidate Selection

Both Aviation Orientation and Private Pilot Training and Certification candidates will be recommended for consideration in High Hopes for Teens through local social service and education organizations.

Eligible candidates meeting the categories above and showing a true desire to fly will be screened by a screening board made up of members of Disability Services of Colorado, Peak Aviation Center, and selected members of the Colorado community.
