Denver TRACON Tour

Many of you have expressed an interest in going to the Denver TRACON (Terminal RADAR Approach Control) for a tour of their facilities. Well, how does April 14th sound?  lt’s a short tour, about 1 hr, of their RADAR facilities and procedures. They’re based out of Longmont, CO so we’ll likely make this a flying trip. Anyone is welcome. Please sign up by April 7th.

GOOD STUFF

A Mexican newspaper reports that bored Royal Air Force pilots stationed on the Falkland Islands have devised what they consider a marvelous new game. Noting that the local penguins are fascinated by airplanes, the pilots search out a beach where the birds are gathered and fly slowly along it at the water’s edge. Ten thousand penguins turn their heads in unison watching the planes go by. When the pilots turn around and fly back, the birds turn their heads in the opposite direction, like spectators at a slow-motion tennis match. Then, the paper reports, “The pilots fly out to sea and directly to the penguin colony and fly over it. Heads go up, up, up, and ten thousand penguins fall over." - Audubon Society Magazine

Drawing Contest!

For those of you who haven’t been doing much flying lately, we won’t mention any names, here’s a fun and only slightly time-consuming activity to help you get back into the groove. We are having a contest to see who can come up with the best symbol for our flying activities. The logo will be used to distinguish our activities and will be reproduced on t-shirts, in newsletters, activities flyers, and our website. Just pull out your old crayons and get busy!

We will be judging the drawings based on neatness and, of course, creativity. The design must be simple and clean (few colors) for easy reproduction and conversion to computer graphics. The winner will receive a Pilot Center t-shirt with his very own logo! Anyone may participate. The deadline is March 24th.

Newsletter Contributions

We are planning to add new sections to the newsletter such as Suggested Reading, Flying Tips, and Letters to the Editor. Do you have any tips to share or anecdotes to tell? Any contributions are sought for these columns.
