Instrument Rating Costs Estimate

The Instrument Rating requires a minimum of 40 hours of either simulated or actual instrument time to obtain.  This estimate is based on that requirement.  In addition the instrument rating requires that you have 50 hrs of PIC cross country time.  At the minimum, a private pilot will already have at least 5 hours, so we have included the other 40 hrs as a cost estimate.  If you have more than 5 hours then you will require less in this area.  Training for all of our pilot certificates is done on an individual basis.  Training is one-on-one and always with a certified instructor.  We cater our training to your schedule.  The estiamte for the instrument rating with most training done in the 172SP is as follows:

            Cost:
  j Flight Hours - 172SP - 40 $4,940.40
  j Simulator Hours - 5 $200.00
  j  * PIC XC Time in 172 L/N - 40 hrs * $4,081.20
  j Approx. 65 total hours w/ Instructor $2,795.00
  j Charts / Supplies $50.00
  j  * Instrument/Commercial Kit * $167.95
  j  ** Written Test Fee ** $100.00
  j  ** Check Ride Fee ** $400.00

    Total Cost:   $12,734.55

  * = Optional
  ** = Associated Cost, not charged by PAC.

These costs are based on using our 2001 Cessna 172SP.  Some students will choose to use our 172L or N model aircraft for some of the training and/or already have more than 5 hrs of PIC cross country time.  If these things are true your cost will be much lower!  The total cost will always vary based on how much actual flight time you acquire and based on how much ground time is necessary to ensure that you gain the necessary knowledge.  If you would like to speak with an instructor about how you can determine your own cost, please do not hesitate to call.  Thank you for your interest in the Peak Aviation Center, we look forward to hearing from you.
