Flight Training

Private Pilot

Private Pilot License

Where it all begins; the Private Pilot License.

To Fly!!! Mankind has dreamed of flying for ages. Those dreams became reality over 117 years ago, and you too can join that cadre of those who call themselves: "Aviators".  We here at Peak Aviation are passionate about helping you pursue those same flying goals. Whether its just as an enthusiast, or toward a career, we are here to help.

"One mile of highway will take you one mile, but one mile of runway will take you anywhere!"

Step #1 in pursuite of your Aviation dreams!

The Private Pilot license requires an FAA minimum of 40 hours of flight training time to obtain. However, the national average to be at the skill level thee FAA requires to pass the practical test, the "Checkride", is closer to 65 hours. Training for all of our pilot certificates is done one-on-one and always with a Certificated Flight Instructor. We cater our training to your schedule specifically, however we recommend training 2-3 times per week to be most effective. At this pace, you can achieve your Private Pilot license in less than 6 months. Each lesson averages about two hours from start to finish, or as needed for a particular lesson. The total cost for the Private Pilot license is variable for each student, dependent on aircraft used, and personal capabilities. This estimate for the Private Pilot license gives a good "ball-park" idea of the cost breakdown, using the Cessna 172SP.

    COST:
  •   Flight Hours - 172SP
65 $12,480.00
  •   Flight Instructor Hours
55 $3,300.00
  •   Charts / Supplies
  $40.00
  •   Headset Purchase *
  $280.00
  •   Private Pilot Training Kit *

  •   Medical Exam **

  •   Written Test Fee **

  •   Check Ride Fee **
  $500.00
Total Cost Estimate
$17,209.00

    * = Optional
** = Associated Cost, not charged by PA.

This estimate is based on 65 flight hours in the Cessna 172SP, before your checkride. The total cost for the Private Pilot license, will vary based on how much actual flight time you require to be at the proficiency/skill level to pass the FAA checkride. The 65 hours is just the national average for flight students to be at that skill level. Each student learns at a different pace, so your individual amount of flight training may well be less!

Training for all of our pilot certificates is done one-on-one and always with a Certificated Flight Instructor.  We will cater our training to your schedule. This estimate for the Instrument Rating, is using the Cessna 172SP.

The per flight total cost will always vary based on how much actual flight time you acquire and on how much ground training time is used to ensure that you gain the necessary knowledge.

Certificated Flight Instructor Rating

Now you can teach others the joy of flying.

Mountain Training

Mountain Training

Flying here in the shadow of Pike's Peak, and the higher field elevations of Colorado present an awe inspiring opportunity to add to your aviation skills. An airplane will perform differently here, than it does at lower elevations toward sea level. We will do a Mountain training flight, to orient a pilot to the unique challenges presented in flying over mountainous terrain. Our typical training pattern will involve flying west from Colorado Springs, though a few different mountain passes, toward the Buena Vista area, then on to Leadville. Landing at Leadville, you can get your certificate for landing at the highest elevation airport in the US, at almost 10,000msl!! Longer flights are possible if there is interest in going further into the back country!
